Should I Use Video Marketing on Social Media Platforms?

December 6, 2019

Mike Beck and Mike Spina from Quadsimia in Utica, NY talk about the importance of using videos as a part of your digital marketing mix in this week's episode of Tech Files. 🖥️🤖

This is a 4 minute video.

Mike B: Welcome to another edition of Tech Files. My name is Mike Beck. I’m here with the boss man Mike Spina. And this week’s topic is video marketing, specifically for social media. It’s something that we specialize in. So, um, I’m actually the video pro here, so maybe…

Mike S: You’re the video guy.

Mike B: …So maybe Mike will ask me a few questions. But I just wanted to start out and say that, in terms of Facebook marketing, and our posts… You’ve got your photo posts, you’ve got your video posts, links, and text. Out of all of those different types of posts, it’s showing that video is overwhelmingly popular, in terms of engagement.

Mike S: Video is killing it.

Mike B: Yeah. Video’s killing it. And that’s why you see us doing more video. Like, and I’m trying to get better and better at video- we’ve got lights, we’ve got a new microphone… If you go back to our old Tech Files…

Mike S: New old microphone (laughter)

Mike B: Yeah, we’ve got a logo. So, it’s very… video is very important for social media. And I want Mike to kind of talk about, you know, how we start with video, and then we turn it into micro-content.

Mike S: Yeah, definitely. Like you said, if Facebook looks favorably upon video, and that’s a good thing, and your views are going to go up, and it’s going to be shown to more people. But in terms of using the video, re-using the video, it’s a great platform, because you can take this video that we take now, and you can create a blog post out of it, you can create a podcast out of it, you can do some micro-content out of it, whether it be an Instagram post, a small, short, or long Instagram story, Facebook stories…

Mike B: Right.

Mike S: You use multiple ways, where, you can’t go the other way. If you create a blog post, you can’t create a video out of it…

Mike B: You could, it would just be, like, awkward.

Mike S: Yeah.

Mike B: It would be like…

Mike S: Yeah, it would be very awkward.

Mike B: It’d be like, why is this guy reading… a book…

Mike S: You can have the computer reading you the text.

Mike B: Yes. Or Siri or Alexa or something.

Mike S: But the video itself, you can take that and break it down. And that’s why it’s extremely useful in those terms. You could create tons of content out of this one video. You know, we usually cut this down to a couple of minutes…

Mike B: Right!

Mike S: …of video. But then you can cut it further into different things…

Mike B: Bloopers, if you mess up… (laughter)

Mike S: Yeah, exactly. Which we do…

Mike B: Something like that or…

Mike S: So yeah, to me, that’s the real strength of creating videos for social media posts.

Mike B: So if you’ve been following along from, like, Episode 1 of Tech Files, to, I believe we’re on Episode 14… This is 14 weeks of continuous improvement. And that’s what we try to do. We find out how to make things better every week…

Mike S: Better every day.

Mike B: Better every day (laughter) And the last video that we did for a client actually reached about 18,000 people on Facebook and… that’s a lot of people!

Mike S: Yeah.

Mike B: Considering there’s, I think we focused just in Utica. There’s about 65,000 people in the city of Utica. And we got about 18,000 of them. You know, who are on Facebook…

Mike S: Yeah, yeah.

Mike B: … to see that.

Mike S: Which is, they showed some interest. So you’re not marketing to some people who wouldn’t want to see it. It’s a kind of targeted market.

Mike B: So if you are interested in video marketing, specifically for digital media… we have done some traditional media…

Mike S: Yes.

Mike B: We’ve done some placement. We can do some…

Mike S: Commercials.

Mike B: Commercials for regular television. But we focus on digital media. We’d love to work with you, we’d love to partner with you, and I think we can do big things with video marketing. And we’ll see you next time on Tech Files. Take it easy.
